The end is a whirlwind… !

Hey folks-

I’m updating from LAX! I was so busy near the end of my trip I didn’t get a chance to update the last week-ish!

For starters: Luke and I made one last vacation to Tainan, which is in Southern Taiwan. We left Wednesday night and came back to Taipei on Friday night, so it was a short trip. However, it was interesting, if not a little boring :/. We bought tickets to do a city tour, thinking we would be getting on a HUGE tour bus, making stops all over the city… It wasn’t quite that way. You see, the bus was a regular city bus, running to both historic sites and every day stops like Starbucks. Some of the stops were a walk from the main road, which wasn’t terrrible, but the busses only ran once every hour and stopped around 5 or 6. So, we ended up going to Sunset Beach, and got left. So, we took a taxi back to the original station… Ugh. Then we made our way by bus to the Salt Musuem, which closed in our faces at 4:40, even though they were open until 5:30 :(( Bad luck for sights, but we had good luck eating! Lots of delicious crab and shrimp in the Night Market, which Luke peeled. I appreciated this because otherwise my hands would have been filled with shrimp shells and brains. Hey now, I took care of the crab! 😉

On Saturday night, Luke and I had delicious hot pot with our friends Jason and Carly! It was first for me, and the place was great! OH, I forgot. We also had frozen beer! Now that is one awesome invention!

Later that Saturday, Luke and I went to KTV (Basically, a Karaoke hotel) with Dick, and his brother and wife. They are so serious about having fun! They taught us a few Native Taiwanese dances and always danced for my songs haha (It helps to get it going with songs like Lovefool and My Humps). Great night!!

On Sunday, I had my last brunch date with Maggie! We went to a cafe and got delicious waffles and caramel milk tea!

Later that day was PACKING… ugh. It took forever. Like, until we left for the airport Monday morning.

Anyway, the flight from Taipei to LAX was pretty normal, just movies and sleeping. (WE ALL NEED TO WATCH THE MOVIE A WEDDING INVITATION. It has my favorite Taiwanese/Canadian actor, Eddie Peng in it. He is gorg!)

Now the cool part starts… LAX layover of 8 hours. Hopefully the boyfriend will be here soon… I am le bored 😉 On the plus side, I met Redfoo and completely missed that his girlfriend is #1 in the tennis world right now *facepalm

Looks like my next update will be from good, ole Saginaw!

Maggie and Shopping <3

Tuesday was a great day! I got to hang out with my friend Maggie here in Taipei. (We know each other due to being wallmates at the University of Michigan!) We watched a movie, Hotel Transylvania. The movie itself cost NT 100, which is around 3 bucks USD. Popcorn and a drink cost me about 2 bucks… so… In all, I spent around $5, which is less than the cost of ONE student discounted ticket in the US >.<

Then, we made our way to the Shilin Night Market. We went into many stores and bought some thangs- including shoes (AHEM MAGGIE!) and souvenirs. We also got some shrimp pancakes and cool milk tea in a bag (which also came with a show!) Overall, good night. Today Luke and I leave on our last Taiwan adventure to Tainan. It is the oldest city in Taiwan, I hear, with a lot of traditional places and eats!

Love, Stephanie

Tuesday and Glomeruli Don’t Rhyme, Google.

Hey folks-

T-minus (What does that even mean? I feel like every spy says that. Hold on, I’m going to google it…)

-musical interlude-

AHHA. Duh, folks. Time (T) minus… Okay, moving on. *Facepalm

I realized I forgot to post on here my boyfriend and I’s biggest feat for the summer. No, it wasn’t living together for 3 months. (That’s a close second!) No, it wasn’t our two year anniversary. No, it wasn’t seeing who could drink more beer. It was beating an arcade basketball game to set a new record! WOOOOOOOOO. 443, baby!! IMG_0755 IMG_0756 IMG_0757

Recently, we hung out with our friend Henry, who has a place with a pool. We chilled there Sunday afternoon with our swim caps. NBD. It overlooked a neat river area complete with swan boats and cute little shops. IMG_0758 IMG_0761

We still got it.

On Monday, I had my last English conversation class with 3 lovely hairdressers. I learned a lot from them, and I hope they learned a little from me too (besides slang words and multiple meanings for trip!) After class, Luke and I trekked to the National History Museum, only to find that they were closed on Mondays >.< The plan is to hit it again on Wednesday! It’s a can’t miss, folks. We also stopped by the Chiang Kai-shek memorial hall, which looked the same as it did a half ago… ha ha! Although there did seem to be a lot of high school/college dance teams practicing around the National Concert hall! Luke and I also frolicked in the water garden (You know, those places where water shoots up from the ground that kids go crazy in?) Yeah, that was us.

Love, Stephanie

Sunday, Relax day…?

Hey all!

I hope everyone is doing well as summer comes to a close… wait, you mean your summer isn’t almost over?! I have 8 days left in Taiwan and 13 until I start training for my job as an RA at U of M! Ugh, I am so jealous your summer goes until the end of August. You lucky son of a gun!

Anyway, the second to last weekend has been great! I had a last class with one student, Alice. She was such a sweetheart! After class, Luke and I spent the afternoon doing two of our favorite things… READING AND SLEEPING! YAY! Haha, I know we are such a freakin’ cute pair 😉 Anyway, it was really more of a rest up for the night ahead. Luke and I met our friends Jason and Carly, along with Kristy, another cool cat, and went out to a Japanese style restaurant. The food was awesome, and the owner was even better. For his job, he drank with customers. I think he toasted us at least 4 times, always bringing beer with him ha ha! After we hit the restaurant, Luke and I made our way to the BBQ and had more beer and more food haha

Myself, Alice and Juwie!

Wednesday, Wednesday.

I have lots of great news! First, I hung out with my wallmate from my university yesterday, and she cooked yummy food for lunch! Catching up and seeing her cute minion was a highlight of my day!

The other highlight came from tapping out on interviews for my research- 23 done! Complete. Need to be translated and coded… A big thanks to Luke, my wonderful secretary, translator and breakfast getter. None of the research would be possible without him.

Today was organizing for me… and reading. I organized my school binder, not the apartment. Which probably needs to be swept… maybe I will do that tomorrow… maybe not 😉

Anyway, it has become a countdown to August 5th. 12 days folks, and Luke and myself will be back in the US! Wowie!

Loving Life, seriously.

Hey folks-

Saturday was not quite the most productive day I’ve had in Taiwan. I did teach two hours in the morning, but all bets were off in the afternoon. NAPTIME. Because, Friday night was club night! Things went …well, Luke and I went with some friends and the night was fantastic until Luke and I were told we didn’t belong in the club. That is was more of a local place, and what the heck were we even doing there? … Still dealing with that.

Anyway, I uploaded more pictures from our wonderful trip to Penghu so feel free to check those out below. Also, Luke and I gave into pizza temptation yesterday. Domino’s… wow. I missed pizza, folks! haha

Overall, I’ve been counting the days. 15 left for this summer adventure until I have to go back to reality. Just over 2 weeks! I never thought this time would come. Now, I have a small crunch time to send out post cards and get my last souvenirs! DSCN0388 DSCN0390 DSCN0395 DSCN0398 DSCN0403 DSCN0405 DSCN0414 DSCN0421 DSCN0422 DSCN0423 DSCN0424 DSCN0430 DSCN0431 DSCN0432 DSCN0435 DSCN0467 DSCN0468 DSCN0469 DSCN0470 DSCN0472 DSCN0474 DSCN0476 DSCN0483 DSCN0486

Penghu Adventure !

Hello all!

Again future self, please forgive me for not posting, but you were having a wonderful vacation from vacation.

Luke and I spent Sunday- Wednesday exploring all of Taiwan’s extra hidden gems- Penghu, an archipeligo full of fun! We flew from a small airport in Taipei to Magong. There, we were picked up by the hotel and began exploring on foot. (You see, we took an early flight and were there by 9:30 am.) We actually happened upon a lot of sights without realizing their importance. For dinner, we had delicious, fresh shrimp, oysters and crab! It was our big, delicious meal of the trip and worth each dollar.

The second day was pretty special. We celebrated our 2 year anniversary! We took a taxi around the connected islands and saw a lot of historic places. The pictures will speak for themselves. My favorite part (besides being able to finally celebrate an anniversary together!) was the temple with Green Turtles. There is a grand temple, which I was super excited to see then BOOM you go downstairs and its like stepping into the ocean, complete with reef walls and turtles!

The third day we took a boat to the islands were couldn’t quite drive to. We saw the Double Heart, ancient Han villages, temples galore, and biked to a beach with our kids. Total blast!

On Wednesday, our plane left at 2:45 pm and we had just enough time to go to a Northern Island to snorkel and hang out on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
